Introducing the Enlighten Me Chocolate Protein Ball, a high-protein, low-sugar snack developed in response to customer demand, with 11g of protein per serving and an easy-to-digest formula.

You Asked, We Listened: Introducing the Enlighten Me Protein Ball

It Started With Our Patients

The story of the Enlighten Me Shakes began in Dr Angela Kwong's consulting room.

As a GP working with many patients managing their weight, Dr Angela was seeing a recurring challenge among those utilising GLP-1 therapies. As their appetite reduced, eating enough nutritious food - particularly protein - could become more difficult. Some patients were also navigating gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, bloating and reflux.

Together with her patients, Dr Angela began thinking about what a genuinely useful nutritional shake might look like.

The result was the Enlighten Me Shakes - a doctor-designed, patient-led innovation providing more than 32 grams of protein per serve, while being certified FODMAP Friendly and formulated with prebiotics, probiotics and daily greens.

What happened next surprised us.

Then Our Community Made It Their Own

The shakes had been developed with weight management patients in mind, but before long, we began hearing from people using them for many different reasons.

People living with diabetes were looking for a convenient, lower-sugar shake. Women navigating perimenopause and menopause were thinking about protein, maintaining muscle and supporting their muscle mass. Active people were looking closely at ingredients and searching for convenient ways to increase their protein intake.

And of course, our customers started getting creative.

Each month, we shared new ways to use the shakes beyond the shaker - from high-protein pancakes and high-protein chia pudding to homemade chocolate protein bars.

Then there were the protein balls.

Our homemade protein ball recipes received wonderful feedback, but of course, there was one problem: you still had to make them.

Again and again, customers asked whether we could create a ready-made version that they could simply pop in their bag, desk drawer or gym bag and take with them.

So, we started exploring what that might look like.

Are All Protein Balls Actually High In Protein?

When we started looking more closely at protein balls already available, something became abundantly clear.

The words protein ball don't necessarily tell you very much about what's inside.

Protein balls can vary considerably in their ingredients and nutritional composition. Many traditional bliss balls and snack balls begin with ingredients such as dates, dried fruit, oats or nuts, with protein incorporated into the recipe.

There's nothing inherently wrong with those ingredients.

But if your reason for choosing a protein ball is specifically to increase your protein intake, it's worth turning the packet over and looking carefully.

Consider the protein per serve, but also consider the sugar, carbohydrate and fibre content, the sources of protein and the wider ingredient list.

We decided to approach our protein ball from a completely different direction.

We started with the protein.

11 Grams Of Protein In Every Ball

Each Enlighten Me Protein Ball provides 11 grams of protein in one individually wrapped 38-gram ball.

But we weren't interested in protein quantity alone.

We also wanted to think carefully about where that protein came from.

That's why each ball combines three protein sources:

  • Whey protein isolate
  • Pea protein
  • Collagen protein

There's a reason for that specific combination.

Why Three Different Proteins?

Collagen has become an increasingly familiar ingredient in protein products, but there's an important nutritional distinction that isn't always obvious from the front of the packet.

Collagen is considered an incomplete protein because it doesn't contain all nine essential amino acids in sufficient amounts.

Rather than relying on collagen as the only source of protein, we combined it with whey protein isolate and pea protein.

It's a small detail, but it reflects something that matters deeply to us: what's inside matters.

We want the ingredients in our products to have a reason for being there - not simply because they look good on a label.

Getting It Just Right

We set out to create something genuinely different from the everyday protein balls that we were seeing on the shelves.

We wanted it to deliver meaningful protein and fibre, but we also wanted it to be an enjoyable experience to eat.

As it turned out, getting all of those things into one little ball was harder than we initially thought.

Throughout the prototyping process, we were incredibly fortunate to have customers, patients, friends and members of our community taste, test and tell us exactly what they thought.

And they didn't hold back.

Some prototypes were too small, and others too large. Some were too firm, too oily, too chewy, too sweet or simply too hard.

Every piece of feedback helped us refine the next version.

We adjusted the size, worked on the texture and refined the flavour. We kept testing until we arrived at the ball we have today: exactly 38 grams, with 11 grams of protein and 8.2 grams of fibre.

Not too much, not too little. Just enough for a substantial high-protein snack with a delicious texture and naturally flavoured notes that make it genuinely enjoyable to eat.

And perhaps the best way to describe the finished product is through the words of the people who helped us create it:

“A genuinely filling and satisfying snack that lasts for hours.”

“The perfect snack to keep in my bag. I'm going to keep a couple in my drawer at work for those days when you need something substantial but not overly filling.”

Every piece of feedback shaped the ball you see today.

And to everyone who tasted a prototype along the way - thank you. This product is better because you told us what you really thought.

High Protein Without The Sugar Load

Protein was only part of the formulation.

Each Enlighten Me Protein Ball also provides 8.2 grams of fibre and contains just 1.7 grams of sugar.

It is low in carbohydrates and naturally flavoured, without artificial sweeteners or preservatives.

For us, this balance was important.

People choose high-protein snacks for many different reasons. Some are looking for something satisfying between meals. Others are paying closer attention to their sugar or carbohydrate intake. Some simply want a convenient alternative for those moments when preparing food isn't practical.

Our community has taught us that there is rarely one single reason someone wants more protein.

For example, women over 40 may be thinking more intentionally about protein and maintaining muscle, while people living with diabetes may be interested in lower-sugar, higher-protein nutrition options.

The goal isn't always perfection.

It's about having practical options available whenever you need them.

Even Our Wrapper Has A Particular Purpose

You may notice something unusual when you pick up an Enlighten Me Protein Ball.

The wrapper feels quite thick.

That's deliberate.

We chose a protective, multi-layered wrapper designed to help maintain the freshness of the product without needing to add preservatives to the ball itself.

It might seem like a small detail, but thoughtful formulation doesn't stop at the ingredients.

We wanted something that could genuinely “live” in your handbag, work bag or desk drawer, ready for those moments when you need an easy source of protein.

No need for a shaker, blender or preparation time.

Just simply unwrap and enjoy.

Protein For Real Life

There is a place for preparing beautiful, nourishing food, but there is also the reality of real life: busy mornings, school drop-offs, long clinic days, meetings that run over, travel, the afternoon gap between lunch and dinner, or leaving the gym and realising you hadn't planned your next meal.

Convenience and good nutrition don't have to sit at opposite ends of the table.

Sometimes, making a nourishing choice easier is what helps it become part of everyday life.

That's why we see the Enlighten Me Protein Ball as another option rather than as a replacement for whole foods, meals or the Enlighten Me Shakes.

It's simply another way to have protein within reach.

Closing Reflection

Some of our favourite ideas at Enlighten Me haven't started with us.

They've started with a patient asking a question, a customer sending us a message or someone telling us what would make nourishing themselves just a little easier.

The Enlighten Me Protein Ball is one of those ideas.

You asked. We listened.

And we hope it makes getting your protein in on a busy day that little bit easier.
