A simpler way to access medical weight management: how Enlighten Me has evolved
Share
If youβve been exploring support through Enlighten Me, you may already be familiar with our medically supervised approach to weight management.
At its core, that approach hasnβt changed.
What has evolved is how you access it.
Β
Previously, many people began with a Weight Loss Breakthrough Call, a conversation designed to identify contributing factors and guide next steps.
Over time, both patients and referring clinicians began asking a similar question:
Is it possible to move directly into a consultation, and begin care from that first appointment?
There is now a simpler way to begin, bringing assessment and initial care together from the outset.
Β
A clearer place to begin
Many people reach a point where their usual approaches no longer lead to meaningful or sustainable change.
This is rarely due to a lack of effort.
Weight regulation is influenced by a combination of factors, including appetite regulation, hormones, metabolic health, sleep, and life stage.
Without a clear understanding of what is contributing, decisions are often made in isolation.
This might look like:
- starting medication without a full assessment
- adjusting nutrition or exercise without clear guidance
- feeling unsure what to do next despite ongoing effort
A medical assessment provides a more considered starting point.
So your next steps are targeted, realistic, and supported from the beginning.
Β
Why weβve evolved our approach
Over time, a consistent question has come up from colleagues across general practice, pharmacy, dietetics, menopause care, and digital health:
βIs there a way for patients to have a thorough assessment, but continue care with their own GP or team?β
The answer, increasingly, needed to be yes.
Some people benefit from a more supported, all-in-one approach, particularly when access to care is limited, or when structured guidance is helpful early on.
Others may already have an established GP or healthcare team, require face-to-face or specialised multidisciplinary care, or prefer a shared care approach during different phases of their journey.
With the growth of our team at Enlighten Me, we are now able to support both.
Β
The Medical Weight Management Assessment
This is a GP-led telehealth consultation available across Australia.
It is designed to:
- understand your weight history and contributing factors
- determine whether medication may be appropriate
- provide clear, personalised next steps
- offer access to structured support where helpful
Importantly, this brings clinical assessment and the ability to begin care into the same starting point.
Β
What happens after your assessment
You will leave with a personalised plan, clear next steps, and 30 days of structured support inside the award-winning Enlighten Me Program.
This includes:
- evidence-based education
- practical nutrition and exercise guidance
- access to our multidisciplinary team
The focus is not only on understanding what is contributing, but on helping you implement your plan from the outset.
From there, care can be tailored based on your needs and preferences.
This may include:
- follow-up consultations with our GPs for monitoring and medication management where appropriate
- consultations with our allied health team for more individualised support
Some people choose to continue care with our team, while others may require a clinical handover to their regular GP or healthcare providers to support continuity of care.
If medication is part of your plan, we can also guide you through accessing this safely and appropriately, including working with stigma-free pharmacies experienced in supporting patients navigating weight management.
Β
Who this approach supports
This model is designed to meet people where they are.
It may be helpful if you:
- are considering medication, but feel unsure how to begin
- have started treatment, but do not yet have a clear or structured plan
- feel your progress has plateaued or become harder to maintain
- are looking for a more considered and sustainable approach
- would value a second opinion before or during your journey
- have reached your goal and would like guidance to reduce or come off medication while maintaining your progress
- want medical guidance alongside practical support
It also supports a range of care preferences, from those seeking ongoing structured support, to those who prefer a shared care approach with their existing team.
Β
Access to care, wherever you are
This approach has been particularly valuable for those in rural and remote areas across Australia.
Over 40% of our patients are located outside metropolitan centres, where access to multidisciplinary weight management support can be limited.
Telehealth, when done well, allows access to GP-led care, alongside nutrition and exercise support, from home.
This can help reduce delays in accessing care and support more consistent follow-through.
Where appropriate, we can also assist with navigating medication access, which can sometimes be more challenging in these settings.
Β
A model built on collaboration
Historically, around 70% of people have found Enlighten Me through referral from their GP.
This reflects the trust that healthcare professionals place in this model.
Importantly, this approach is designed to complement existing care, not replace it.
For some, this may mean support to get started, followed by ongoing care with their GP.
For others, shared care during treatment, or structured support during specific phases of their journey.
Β
Moving forward with clarity
You donβt need to have everything figured out before booking.
This assessment is designed to give you a clear understanding of:
- what is contributing
- what your options are
- what your next step could look like
From there, you can move forward with clarity.
Β
If youβre considering your next step
Whether you are exploring options for the first time, looking for a more structured approach, or wanting clarity before making further decisions, this is designed to be a practical and supported starting point.
Β
Closing reflection
Clarity can change the direction of a journey.
When you understand what is happening in your body, your next steps become more grounded, more targeted, and more sustainable.
And from there, progress becomes easier to build.
