Women’s Health Essentials in Primary Care Sydney 2026

Our Founder, Dr Angela Kwong, looks forward to returning to the stage in Sydney for the Women’s Health Essentials in Primary Care Sydney 2026 conference.
Following the strong response to her presentation last year, this topic was highly requested again by local GPs who felt it filled an important gap in menopause care - particularly in providing practical, peer-to-peer advice grounded in everyday General Practice. Many clinicians reflected that while menopause is frequently encountered in consultations, clear frameworks for managing the metabolic impact - especially in relation to weight - are often missing from formal training.
It is a privilege to continue that conversation in 2026.

Dr Angela Kwong’s Session - Weight Management in the Perimenopausal and Menopausal Woman
In clinical practice, menopausal weight gain is one of the most common concerns raised by women in their forties and fifties. Many describe stable eating patterns and ongoing physical activity, yet notice increasing central adiposity, reduced muscle tone and a shift in metabolic efficiency.
Relative oestrogen deficiency - and in some cases oestrogen resistance - has measurable metabolic consequences. Oestrogen influences insulin sensitivity, lipid metabolism, mitochondrial function and muscle protein synthesis. As hormonal patterns fluctuate and decline, visceral fat deposition can increase while lean muscle mass gradually decreases.
Dr Angela’s session is designed to translate this physiology into practical action.
Attendees will:
- Understand the relationship between relative oestrogen deficiency or resistance and metabolic health
- Identify the biochemical changes occurring during the peri/menopausal transition and why they occur
- Explore non-pharmacological strategies for weight management
- Assess the evidence for increased protein recommendations in post-menopausal women
- Consider how structured movement strategies such as exercise snacks can help patients begin sustainable exercise routines
This session continues to resonate because it reflects real-world consulting. It acknowledges complexity without oversimplifying and provides language that supports confident, compassionate discussions.
