Why We Chose Seven Serves Per Bag

Recently, one of our lovely customers sent us this message:
“I find these shakes are an easy way to get protein and nutrients when trying to lose weight. But being FODMAP friendly is the biggest win for me.
The only thing I don't like is the scoop in every packet. I would be happy to opt out of a spoon or pay for one per delivery.
Thanks for the great product!”
It's a wonderful problem to have.
When we read this email, we smiled. Not only because it reflected the positive impact that the Enlighten Me Shakes were having, but because it highlighted something we hadn't spoken about before: the story behind the packaging.
What many people don't realise is that the scoop, the serving size, and even the decision to package seven serves per bag were all shaped by conversations with patients.
Designed With Patients, Not Just For Patients
When Dr Angela Kwong first began developing the Enlighten Me Shakes, she spent a great deal of time listening to patients about their experiences with other meal replacement products.
One common concern was the amount of packaging waste created by individual daily sachets.
While convenient, many people felt uncomfortable throwing away packaging every day, particularly when meal replacements formed part of a regular routine.
At the other end of the spectrum were the large tubs and containers.
Many patients shared that they found these overwhelming. Some felt discouraged by the idea of opening a large tub and wondering if they would ever finish it. Others noticed that once opened, the contents could gradually lose freshness or become exposed to moisture over time.
The result was a simple compromise.
Seven serves.
One week's worth of high protein meal replacement shakes in a convenient pouch that balances freshness, flexibility and practicality.
For many patients, it felt like the sweet spot between the waste of daily sachets and the commitment of a large tub.
A week's worth was enough to build consistency, while still feeling fresh, manageable and approachable.
The Importance of Flexibility
Another piece of patient feedback helped shape an important design decision.
Not everybody wants a full shake every time.
Some patients using weight management medications found that a full meal - or even a full shake - could feel overwhelming due to appetite changes. Others wanted a smaller snack-sized serving between meals. Some simply preferred a lighter option on certain days.
Rather than creating an all-or-nothing product, Dr Angela Kwong wanted the shakes to be flexible.
That's why one full serve consists of two scoops mixed with 300ml of water.
It also means that one scoop mixed with 150ml of water creates a smaller high protein snack when that's all you feel like.
For patients who are struggling to finish a meal, experiencing appetite changes, or simply looking for a convenient source of protein between meals, that flexibility can make all the difference.
Why We Include A Scoop In Every Bag
We did consider whether to sell scoops separately.
Ultimately, we decided to include one in every bag because we wanted every customer, especially those trying the shakes for the first time, to be able to get started immediately.
No additional purchases.
No guessing portion sizes.
Just open the bag and get started.
For us, making good nutrition easy and accessible was the priority.
That said, we completely understand that our loyal customers may eventually accumulate a few extras.
So what can you do with them?
Giving Your Scoop A Second Life
Over time, Dr Angela Kwong has found plenty of practical uses for spare scoops around the home.
Measure Cereal
The scoop is a handy way to portion breakfast cereal, helping you create a balanced serving while keeping things quick and simple.
Measure Rice, Grains, Nuts and Seeds
Whether you're measuring jasmine rice, oats, nuts, seeds, or baking ingredients, the scoop is surprisingly versatile in the kitchen.
Sometimes the simplest tools are the most useful.
Rest Your Tea Bag
One of Dr Angela Kwong's favourite uses is as a tea bag holder.
Simply place your used tea bag inside the scoop and rest the tag neatly over the handle.
No drips.
No searching for a spoon.
Just a simple solution using something you already have at home.
We Love Hearing Your Ideas
One of the best parts of developing the Enlighten Me Shakes has been learning from the people who use them every day.
This customer email reminded us that even the smallest details can spark meaningful conversations about sustainability, convenience and thoughtful product design.
If you've discovered another creative use for your scoop, we'd love to hear about it.
After all, many of the best ideas come directly from our community.
Closing Reflection
The Enlighten Me Shakes were built from real conversations with real people. From the seven-serve pouch to the flexible serving size, every design choice was made with practicality and patient experience in mind.
And sometimes, the smallest details tell the biggest stories.
