How to Make a High Protein Breakfast Smoothie

Some mornings there's time to sit down to a hearty breakfast, and other times there really isn't.

A high protein breakfast smoothie is one of the easiest ways to bridge that gap. Quick enough for a rushed morning, but still giving your body something worth having.

Here's a simple recipe to start with, along with a few ideas to make it your own.

A Note On Low FODMAP Smoothies

If you're managing your diet around FODMAPs, portion and ingredients both matter. This recipe uses simple, familiar ingredients, and our Vanilla Enlighten Me Shake is certified FODMAP Friendly, so the base of the smoothie is one you don't need to think twice about. If you're following a low FODMAP diet, it's worth checking your own serve sizes for the fruit you use, with the Monash University FODMAP app or your dietitian's guidance.

Enlighten Me was created by our founder, Dr Angela Kwong, a Sydney-based GP with a specific interest in weight management and digestive health. It was designed to be genuinely flexible, with enough protein to make a real difference and consciously balanced ingredients, so it works just as easily blended into a smoothie as it does mixed on its own.

Why People Reach For Breakfast Smoothies

Why are breakfast smoothies useful during weight management? They're quick and portable, easy to take with you if the morning is rushed, whether that's on the way to work, school drop-off, or just out the door.

Do I need a blender? Not at all. Mix the powder with water for something ready in under a minute, or blend it with your own fruit, veg or milk if you'd like to make it your own.

Can the whole family enjoy them? Yes - a basic smoothie like this is easy to enjoy across different ages and routines. Not just as a single serve option for one person.

A Closing Thought

A high protein breakfast doesn't need to be complicated, or the same thing every day. Sometimes it's as simple as a smoothie you actually enjoy, blended your way, in the time it takes to get out the door.
