How To Try A New Protein Shake Without Committing To A Full Pouch

Trying a new protein shake can feel like a bit of a gamble. You're not quite sure if you're going to enjoy the flavour, how it will sit with you, or whether you'll be left with a full pouch you might never finish.

A single serve is an easy way around that. It lets you try one flavour, take your time, and decide what suits you before you fully commit.

Here's what we'll cover today: why trying one serve first makes sense, a simple three-day trial, and the story behind our, affectionately known, β€˜mini’s’. We'll also share what customers have told us so far, and answer a few questions we're often asked.

Why Trying One Serve First Makes Sense

When you're choosing a protein shake, there's often a lot to find out that you can't necessarily tell from the label. A single serve can help you notice:

  • The true flavour - whether you like it, and whether it's the right level of sweetness for you
  • The texture - how it mixes, and whether you prefer it with milk, water or blended with ice
  • How it fits in with your day - whether it's something you reach for at breakfast, after the gym or on a busy afternoon

And if you're someone who has a sensitive gut, or you tend to be cautious with new foods, going slowly can be more comfortable. Trying one serve at a time allows you to notice how you feel before you choose more. If you do have a digestive condition, your GP or dietitian can help guide what suits you.

A Simple Three-Day Trial

A three-day trial simply consists of three sachets. Here's one way to do it:

  • Day 1 - try the vanilla, the way you'd usually make a shake
  • Day 2 - try the chocolate, so you can compare the two
  • Day 3 - repeat your favourite, or change the liquid to milk, or add ice, to see how you like it

It helps to jot down a few notes each day: what you liked, how it tasted, and how it fitted into your routine. By day three, you'll have a good idea of which flavour you'd like to keep in your cupboard.

Why We Chose Seven Serves Per Pouch

When our founder, Dr Angela Kwong, designed the shake with her patients, she wanted to keep packaging simple and keep the shake fresh without necessarily needing preservatives. Together, they settled on seven serves per resealable pouch. This keeps it fresh, it's easy to carry, and it allows you to rotate flavours.

What You Told Us

Once the pouches were out in the world, we heard from many of you through our website. Some of you felt cautious about trying a new flavour and just wanted to try one serve, or a three-day trial, without necessarily committing to the full pouch.

Others told us they wished the shakes came in sachets for portability, to take with them on holidays, to go camping, or to tuck into a bag for the gym.

So we created the β€˜mini’s’.

Meet The β€˜Mini’s’

Our β€˜mini’s’ are individually wrapped single serves, designed for the bag, the car or the suitcase.

  • Shake sachets - single serve sachets in vanilla and chocolate, so you can try a flavour or take your shake with you
  • Our chocolate protein ball - an individually wrapped single serve snack, handy for the handbag or desk drawer. You can read more about it in our protein ball FODMAP Friendly testing post.

A Few Questions We're Often Asked

Can I try a flavour before buying a full pouch?
Yes. Our shake sachets are single serves, so you can try vanilla or chocolate before choosing a pouch.

How many sachets do I need for a trial?
We suggest three. That gives you one day for each flavour, and a third day to repeat your favourite or try it a different way.

Are the sachets good for travel?
They're individually wrapped single serves, so they're easy to pack for holidays, camping trips or the gym bag.

Are the sachets low FODMAP?
Yes, both our vanilla and chocolate shakes are certified FODMAP Friendly. If you are following a low FODMAP eating plan, it's worth checking serving sizes and any other ingredients you add with your dietitian or with the Monash University FODMAP app.

A Closing Thought
