Enlighten Me at the Digital Health Festival 2025 — Digital Innovation in the Weight Management Space
Share
On May 13th and 14th, the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre will come alive as it welcomes over 8,000 healthcare professionals, innovators, and leaders to the Digital Health Festival 2025 — Australia’s largest event dedicated to exploring the future of health in a digital world.
With more than 300 speakers across dozens of stages, the festival offers a unique opportunity to hear from those shaping healthcare beyond the hospital walls. Among them is Dr. Angela Kwong, General Practitioner and Founder of Enlighten Me, a medically supervised online weight loss program combining telehealth, digital education, and community support.
Dr. Kwong will be speaking on the panel, “Digital Health Career Paths for Healthcare,” at 3pm on May 14th in the Spark Theatre, joining a line-up of accomplished leaders:
- Ryl Jensen, CEO at the Digital Health Association (New Zealand)
- Sophie Turner, Chief of Global Strategy & Operations at Graphics et al
- Professor Jim Buttery, Child Health Informatics, University of Melbourne
Together, they’ll explore their unconventional journeys into digital health, the personal interests that led them there, and the challenges they’ve faced while innovating in a space that’s still evolving. Their experiences are a reminder that there is no single path to impact — and that today’s digital health leaders often began their careers in very different places.
For Dr. Kwong, the journey began in a busy suburban general practice, where she saw an increasing number of patients struggling with weight-related issues and conflicting information. The medicine she was practising began to feel reactive — focused on managing complications rather than preventing them. She saw firsthand the impact of weight stigma in healthcare and knew something had to change.
So, she created Enlighten Me — a multidisciplinary, digital-first weight loss program that puts kindness, education, and clinical integrity at the centre. Through telehealth consultations, group classes, and an engaging digital learning platform, Enlighten Me supports members to take control of their health with confidence, compassion, and evidence-based care.
But Dr. Kwong didn’t stop there. In 2024, she founded The Australian Weight Loss Summit, a free online event bringing together experts from across the country — including GPs, bariatric surgeons, dietitians, psychologists, and exercise physiologists — to provide open access, stigma-free, evidence-based education to both the public and healthcare professionals.
Her mission? To transform the conversation around obesity care and make high-quality education available to everyone — no matter where they live or what they’ve been told about weight.
Digital health has made this possible. It’s enabling new models of care, empowering clinicians to reach people at scale, and opening doors for patients who have long felt left behind. The upcoming panel at the Digital Health Festival will highlight these opportunities — and why more healthcare professionals are choosing to step beyond the clinic to drive change.
If you’re attending the Digital Health Festival 2025, don’t miss the session at 3pm in the Spark Theatre — and come say hello at the Enlighten Me booth. Whether you’re curious about building a digital career in healthcare, passionate about prevention, or simply looking for inspiration, this is a conversation you won’t want to miss.
